i just stopped by your cococino county pages
because i lost my home at another newspaper
when it got sold
the daily news in bicknell indiana is no more
its been sold off and its future is in doubt
they cleaned the place up a bit to show it off
and i had to go

so i stopped by cococino
on my way to visit relatives in the western u.s.
i found the things you said about mr george okay
you know i posed for him when he did the pictures
for the 1930 edition of the book
i think he depicted me as very distinguished but
he could have drawn me somewhat larger
in keeping with my star billing
but i digress

sir you misspoke yourself
on your bibliography page when you said
'as there are no texts devoted to archy and mehitabel,
 other than the 1 volume of archy's poetry by thre no 
 texts devoted to archy and mehitabel, other than the 
 1 volume of archy's poetry by that name....'

sir there are several others to wit

archy's life of mehitabel [1933]

the life and times of archy and mehitabel [1940]

[that was after the boss was gone those were dark days]

and anthony edward's study= o rare don marquis [1962]

you also said
'i don't know much about don marquis, the author.'
he was that
a newspaperman and columnist, a writer of short stories
and a playwright and of course a poet

he was born donald robert perry marquis in walnut, illinois
[about 75 miles north of peoria a ragged little town they
have no newspaper therettle town they
have no newspaper there
0n th 29th of july in 1878

the newspapers he worked for were giants in those days
there was the new york sun
and the new york tribune
to name a few

the boss left us just after the last christmas
on 29 december 1937

but his spirit lives
in newspapers and elsewhere
where beloved words see print and
'youth and a warm heart conspire'
